DARKWING (are you as excited as I am?)

I guess the theme of today’s posts is excitement.  I was flicking through October’s spookifying issue of OWL Magazine for my classroom, and came across a special on Kenneth Oppel’s latest book, Darkwing.  Is anyone else as eager to read this book as I am?  I devoured the Silverwing saga a couple of years ago.  What great stories.  And Airborn and Skybreaker?  Gush.

I think all of us bloggers should make Darkwing our Halloween read.  Plus Oppel has lots of teacher resources for his books on his website (Kenneth Oppel Teacher Stuff), not to mention a site devoted exclusively to Darkwing – complete with creepy music.

I am now going to go and practice self-control by NOT heading to my local bookstore to get a copy of this right away.

Blogging for Robert’s Snow – Here it comes!

I am excited that this great blogging event is finally almost here! Robert’s Snow is an online auction in support of cancer research at Dana-Farber institute. What is being auctioned you ask? Only the prettiest, sweetest, funniest, quirkiest little wooden snowflake ornaments, designed by many, many talented children’s illustrators. The auction itself does not get underway until November 19th, but starting tomorrow, kidslit bloggers will be featuring the illustrators and their tiny works of art all over the kidslitosphere. This is the perfect way to check out the snowflakes before the auctions, and to learn more about some of your favourite illustrators at the same time.

I will be posting as many direct links as possible to said illustrator features this week.  Also, all direct links will be available every day at 7 imp, the grand mastermind behind all of this bloggy cooperation. Below is a list of links to the blogs that will be participating in week one of this event (Thanks to Jen R for doing so much html grunt work for the rest of us!).

Let’s hope that all of this leads to lots of intense bidding action when the auction starts.  Go team!
